Shivhar is an administrative district in the state of Bihar. The district headquarters is located in Shivhar. The district was carved out of Sitamarhi district on 6 October 1994 by the Government of Bihar vide its notification number 286. The district is located in the northern part of Tirhut Division and lies in the northern region of Bihar state. It is bounded by Sitamarhi district to the north and east, Muzaffarpur district to the south, and East Champaran district to the west. It is the smallest district in Bihar state in terms of both population size and total area of ββthe district. The district has only one subdivision, Shivhar, and five CD blocks, namely Shivhar, Piprari, Puranihiya, Dumri Katsari, and Tariaani. Shivhar is the only town in the district. There are a total of 53 panchayats and 203 villages in the district.
